Habits, by their nature, are not bad
Oh, some are
Like the habit of turning the other direction when someone needs you
Like the habit of waiting until the day of to send the birthday card
Like the habit of sleeping instead of dreaming
But good habits keep the world turning,
keep the teacher always reading
keep the friend always close
keep my dishes clean and laundry done
and bring old reruns in like the favorite neighbor
who moved away but now returns for a little stay.
Good habits may cause profound change.
Good habits, while often hard to forge,
are always worth the time they take.
