Daybreak Play

Two duck couples circle, swirling
the still river, waiting for the sunrise.
Unstartled by my stare, they glide,
my noise muffled by the window pane,
my stare, hidden by the elevation
of the house above the river’s edge.

Their play is my break.
Their day breaks into my hope.
