Word Play

He said he changed his screen protector–
Scratches, relentless air bubbles,
smudges or permanent damage
precluded clear visibility for its user.
And we, like his phone, sometimes need
our outer layer peeled off; the scratches, smudges,
signs of wear, removed.
We hope someone will come along to help us
see clearly again, but until then
we read our lives through hazy
plastic; communication filtered through experience.
